I'm about ready to go catch a few. I normally just pull up amongst the crowd at the Duck River bend on the TN river but I had a guy show me a couple nice holes last year and we never had any company and wore 'em out. The big sow's should be gettin close to right if they aren't already.

Anybody tryin 'em out yet?

I'm ready to try them at Pickwick now that hunting is winding down.
Hey username have you tried the fishing up around Perryville? We have had some luck in the past fishing the creek mouths there.

The river is a little high right now. If it would drop about 5 feet it should be on for sauger.

Oldhunter,
I'm about 20 miles up river from Perryville. Alot of creek mount fishing for Sauger around here.

I haven't fished for sauger there but I've bass fished there a little. Most of my sauger fishing has been from the I40 bridge to the mouth of the Duck River.

where is the duck river bend? I usually put my boat in at Iron Bridge? And below the dam and float to chickasaw. I've never caught any sauger out there? Is the place your fishing near there? (username)

They are referring to the Duck River where it dumps into the Tn. river near New Johnsonville and Cuba Landing . You are about 100 river miles from there at Iron Bridge near Columbia . \:\)

No not even close. Sorry, I shouldn't have called it the "duck river bend" Its actually the TN river that bends. Heres an aerial of where I'm talking about.

Went today for a few hours.

Put in at Cuba Landing and tried several spots between I40, past the Duck.

River is up, muddy, and they are flat MOVIN some water. Sauger bite was real slow, caught a few small ones and it was tough to fish with the swift current and wind blowing the same direction. I'll be goin back in a few days. There were a lot of boats out and they were strugglin too. Should be gettin close.

The crappie bite is supposedly pretty good around warmer water, up shallow. I sure wish I had a long pole in the boat today. Wont leave home without it next time!

Clifton here I'm just waiting on deer season to end to begin bass fishing. Heard that the leaves were turning up off the bottom making sauger fishing tough down this way recently. River has been up lately as well but i did notice today that the logs were moving in towards the bank which means the river is dropping. Should get interesting in a week or two.

On another site you said you caught these below Pickwick. So where did they come from?

True , but when you say below Pickwick , most anglers assume you mean below the dam , not 75 miles away . Congrats on the catch though . \:\)

Word is they are biting one day and not the next on Douglas. Since we are going after them Saturday that will be the day they are not.
Work aquaintence of mine fished Tuesday and caught several big ones, but thanks to twrc they were having to throw most back because you can only keep 1 17" or longer sauger on Douglas. No minimum length but they were catching good ones.

As far as Pickwick goes there have been alot of boats below the Dam since they quit spilling water last week. I "hear" that this time of year they start biting pretty good around these parts.

I work at the Lock, so if any you guys want to know the outflow(other than what TVA puts on there site)I will let you know. Sometimes it changes and they dont update their website.
