Excellent! I will transplant some then. It seams that they bear at a young age so that is even better.

I could use some wild pears around here, but can't seem to find any for transplanting.

I've been wondering if I can get some "wild" pears and apples growing from seed.

Quiver has some very interesting pear trees in his yard. I think they come from a somewhat wild back ground. From what he says they are very small and the deer absolutely go crazy over them. I am trying to bribe him with a cobbler for some seeds. Check over on the cathole website in a day or so and see if he's had any luck.

I don't think pear and apples do very well from seed. Most fruits with a pit will sprout. The Indian peach seeds I have do well if you can get them to sprout. I buried 25 and only got 3 to sprout, but they will produce 1" peaches galore after 3 years. I just need to increase the germination rate.

For you guys that are wanting wild pears. Take a real close look around an existing tree, especially if it is near heavy cover or woodline. There may be a few saplings growing within a few feet of the outer limbs a foot tall or so. They are kind of hard to identify. I have about eight marked and are going to transplant soon. It seems they will grow in a wide varieties of soil types and the deer do love them. If they will sprout from just falling on the grown and in weeds, I guess someone could start some at home.
