24" on my Mossberg 835. My first turkey gun was a Mossberg 500 and it had a 28" barrel and was just too long for my liking.

I have a 870 with a 28 inch barrel that shoots 3" shells and its a turkey killin machine. This past spring I bought a camo mossberg 535 that shoots 3 1-2" shells with a 24" barrel. The 870 shoots great groups the barrel is a little long tho. The mossberg shoots good groups too, but ive missed two turkeys, because the pattern is high with factory sights. Hope to remedy that with the TRU-GLO red dot i just bought. I dont think the length of the barrel makes the gun pattern any better and the shorter barrel is easier to carry around.

22", can't stand anything longer and would love one even shorter, but no gun maker I trust fills that niche.

I just checked my 870...It has a 20" barrel 21" with the rhino 660 choke...Oh yeah just put my new surshot stock on it..I love it...

Got several turkey guns in about every length, but I hunt most often with a Benelli M1 with an 18 1/8-inch tactical barrel. With the Gobblin' Thunder choke it measures just shy of 19 3/4.

GENERALLY speaking, longer barrels will produce more uniform patterns, and higher velocities than shorter barrels.
But IMO, the advantages of longer barrels are off-set by two particular disadvantages:
1) A turkey is more likely to see (and in some cases hear) you when carrying a long-barreled gun. A longer barrel sticks out farther from your body, and any movement of the gun is magnified more; and since it sticks out farther, you're more likely to bang it on something, making a noise that could spook a turkey.
2) A longer barrel may be very hard or impossible to use in some blind set-ups. I've also raised a long-barreled gun and hit a tree trunk, limb, or even a big weed, interrupting the shooting process (sometimes spooking the bird) --- less likely with a shorter barrel.
I prefer a barrel no longer than 24 inches for turkey hunting.
And most of the after-market "turkey" chokes will add another inch or two to your barrel length.
That said, I've killed most of my turkeys with a 28-inch barrel, in part because I was turkey hunting long before the advantages of shorter barrels were realized and marketed.

Since this is a thread about "barrel lengths", keep in mind most of the after-market "turkey" chokes increase your barrel length.
I've even seen some that were highly rated for their performance, yet they were very "shiny" and reflective --- IMO almost totally negating their value for turkey hunting.

There is a great article in NWTF mag adressing this. The length of barrel does not matter. Back in the day where powders burned different it mattered. With new powder it burns out around 11 inch of the barrel, so length has absolutely nothing to do with the velocity. Now the pattern is dictated stictly by the choke. SO you can shoot a 20 or28 inch barrel with the same choke and get the same results. It was a great article!
