the reason for using a heavy sinker is so you can feel it "thud" on the bottomlet out enough line to "bump" it on the bottom, Only works in a boat btw.

you bump simply by letting out line to water depth, lift and lower your rod, you should notice what I'm talking about.

You may likely see me up there trying 'em out. Several reports are coming in that folks are starting to catch some smaller ones. But if it's real cold (in the twenties) and they are generating, should catch a few. I fish from the bank below the lock wall. I use a white twin-tailed white grub with a 1/4 oz leadhead. Works fine. But when there biting good, color doesn't seem to make a hill of beans difference. Good luck.

Made it back from Pikewick yesterday empty handed. They had 7 or 8 gates open and the river was rolling. Next time I go I'll know to check the schedule of the dam. Still had a great time just launching and loading the boat below the dam.

If they have that many gates open, hopefully it will be flooded.
If so fish at night, right beside the steps that go beside the dam.
I have seen the parking lot flooded once at Pickwick. We could actually see the sauger going across the white lines in the parking lot!!
We had to fish, standing in the beds of our trucks.
