Just thought I'd give an update... I don't think I'll own another pair of snake boots. I really enjoyed hunting in a quality hiking boot (I picked up some Lowa Caminos) and the gaiters. The gaiters weren't nearly as hot as snake boots and being able to remove them after the hunt or whenever is a really nice option. I hunt some nasty terrain and I never once felt unsure about my footing. The gaiters stayed in place and never rubbed or felt uncomfortable on my legs. The only wear on the gaiters is from when I had to slide down a steep bank between two rock bluffs (the stitching is slightly frayed). Snake boots cannot match the quality of a higher-end hiking boot (Lowa, Kenetrek, Crispi, etc). The higher-end hiking boot doesn't cost much more than a good snake boot and you'll likely get more use out of the hiking boot throughout the year. You also won't find a better hiking/hunting sock than the Darn Tough merino wool socks. I've gone through 3 seasons (turkey, elk and causal wear) with mine and they still look brand new. By far the best I've used.
