Key Fob

Lost one of my key fobs to my 13' Ram :livid:

Good Lord them things are EXPENSIVE!! Locksmith quoted me $220 and dealership was $270 + tax....

I can buy them online for around $90 but then have to it programmed at the dealership or locksmith, don't know what that will cost yet. I am guessing $75 or so, some you can program yourself if you have atleast one fob but the 2013 doesn't fall in this category....FIGURES

Anyone know if it takes a special device to program them ? We have a state of the art diagnostics machine at work but not for sure if it will allow you to program key fobs or not!!

I lost the keys to my 2013 150 while hunting. I ended up having a wrecker tow me to the dealer an hour away. They had to cut and program me a new key. It took them 3 attempts before they could get one to work. The second one they made would unlock the doors but wouldn't crank the truck. They sold it to me for $1.00. The good one ran about $125.00. The next trip to the club someone had found my keys laying in the middle of the trail I walked in on and returned them.

Please shop around for prices. When I got my new to me Yukon last Oct, it came with only one. I negotiated a free one with the dealership, which they mailed me later.

Now the prices. This is around mid TN dealerships.

Laser cutting key - quoted 80$, 50$ and free at one dealer.
Programming - quoted 89$, 50$, 100$, and 139$ (139$ at the same place that quoted me 100$ the week before - i stopped by again to see if they would match the 50$ quote).

Still havent' programmed by key, but the key has been laser cut for free at one of the dealerships.

Yep! $1.50 Though I dread the wife or kids losing one of theirs. I always like to have several spares which I do for my truck and toys, but not for the others, way too much money.

So is there anywhere else besides a dealer to get these chip keys programmed? I just got another truck, and it only came with one key as well, 3 key fobs, but only one chip key.

I got mine at

www.Remotesremotes.com

Got a Jeep Patriot. That worked.

I got a Ford Escape. That worked.

I got a Lincoln Aviator. That worked.

I got another Ford Escape. That worked.

Prices were quite reasonable. Instructions sucked but I worked through that. No locksmith. No dealer.

Best of luck

My problem was that my fob/key combo can’t be ordered by local locksmiths (Subaru Outback). I called the dealership and they had order it by VIN # and have it laser cut before sending it to them for programming to my vehicle... I got out $280 later

Pretty expensive, but you don't see people busting steering columns anymore. I always thought the manufacturers should have been held responsible for making their vehicles so easy to steal.

We bought an 18 Jeep Wrangler Monday and it only came with one key. $220 is the cheapest we've found so far to get a 2nd one.

Cheapest place I found for programming is Batteries Plus.

Thanks Pic, there's a BP close by on my way home from work. I'll stop in and see how much they'll charge. ;)

Yes this was the local Jeep dealer. Online is like $90 but no telling what they charge to program it.

Bought 2 key FOB's for my 2002 Tahoe for around $10 off ebay. Took me less than 3 minutes to program both. both work perfectly.

bought 2 for my daughters 2001 Toyota $ runner for $10 off ebay. Spent over 2 hours and never could get them to accept the program from the car. Spent $100 at the dealer to get them programmed.

I think it's worth buying them off ebay and trying to program them yourself first. If it doesn't work, you're out $10 or so.
