New Personal Best Score 600 yds

New Personal Best Score 600 yds

Postby TiminTN » Mon Jul 08, 2019 2:15 pm

We shoot a monthly 600 yd match in Memphis, and Sunday was some kind of good conditions with ultra light wind and overcast skies. I had practiced Saturday and that barrel/load was not up to the task, so I came home spun on another Brux tube, and decided to try a lot number of Bergers I had never shot in this barrel. Talk about lucky, I dropped 2 points for a 48 on target 1, and I believe it was not enough foulers before going record, Target 2, I only shot 1 siter and had a 50 score with 4 x`s! went to pits to let relay 2 have at it. Then going back to shoot target 3 dropped 1 point for a 49, and cleaned target 4 for another 50. I had a total score of 197 out of possible 200 and 8 x`s. This was my personal best outing!! Case was my TAC 40 with Varget CCI450 and Berger 105 VLD Hunting jammed .010". It was the best precision shooting I have ever experienced, holdoffs worked beautifully. Pumps new life into my 62 year old self....Lol!!

Now it was a match! 2nd in light was only 1 point down with 196 and 3rd place shot a 195 down 2 points.

Unbelievable shooting Tim, but I expect nothing less from you. Congrats and thanks for sharing.

Good shooting Tim. I shoot FTR in the monthly MRP. I hope I don’t have to shoot against you this month.

Thank you Andy S.

I shoot in Open if I go to MSSA but right now my favorite match is in Como MS. Less wear and tear with the 25 shot match, and good eats at the square afterwords. Good luck to you!

You shoot with a coworker of mine down at Como. If I understood him right, he told me you were helping him with a custom build. Robert Gambill sound familiar?

Sounds awesome. Didn't understand all of it but impressive to say the least. I'm not sure I could see adequately to shoot to 600 yards. Out of curiosity, what caliber and what scope were you using? You may have mentioned it and I missed it in the explanation with the lingo...

Just to clarify how difficult this is. The X ring is a half MOA or 3 inches and the 10 ring is 1 MOA or 6 inches. He only dropped 3 shots outside of the 1 MOA ring with 8 shots in the half MOA ring.

We shoot IBS targets, I did not specify this was the monthly benchrest match, a monthly match for score only. The targets and sizes you describe are F-Class targets. The 600 yd IBS is the only target that is a "reduced" target and is a "reduced" version of the IBS 1000 yd target. So looking through your scope at the 600 yd version looks the same as being at 1000 yds looking at an IBS 1000 yd target. As far as sizes go, since its "reduced" they are not common sizes, but I will measure one. The 10 ring is less than 1/2 MOA at 2.825" and the X ring is, 1.215", hope this helps.

I also dropped 3 points, the first shot out, landed in the 8 ring, the other landed in the 9. Everything else hit the 2.825" ring and 8 hit the 1.215". Target 2 had 4 x`s.

Your typical 600 yd. IBS target.

doc, I shoot a 6BR case that's improved, fireformed into a slightly larger capacity by moving the shoulder forward. I am fortunate to own a Nightforce 15x55 power optic, and Sunday, the weather was outstanding to be able see the target clearly without mirage boiling. I could see the x ring in the white box at 600 yds, and could see my bullet holes, if they landed in the white portion of the target.
