Just ordered, because nobody carries trapping supplies locally, around $500 worth of supplies. When I hit check out I reasoned it's the price of a walfart grade rifle and it will pay off in the end with saved turkey poults and a few fawns. I'll definitely post pics in a few weeks after my trap prep. I feel like I have amazing property to trap with mucho pinch points and travel lanes. If I strike out it will be my lack of knowledge, but we shall see. ;)

Re: Sticker shock

Last year was my first year to attempt trapping in MS and I didn't do so hot to say the least. This season has started off much better thankfully. I have more traps and supplies on the way as well. It is very fun and addictive. There are several good Youtube channels for trapping: TrapperJ Outdoors, Coyote Trapping School, Wolfernation, Dublelung1 (local MS buddy), Management Advantage, etc... You'll pick up on plenty of information watching those guys. Good luck!!!

I wish I would've done what you did and just figure out exactly what I needed and ordered it all at once. I've probably paid $100 too much in shipping

I started out a little rough and made mistakes but pretty soon the fur flew. Good advice above those guys taught me most of what I know.

Re: Sticker shock

Well I set my traps two days ago and have caught a yote every morning since. Good times!

What are you using for traps and bait? How do you keep from catching domesticated dogs? I have three dogs, I'd hate to injure one of them; hence I haven't previously thought of trapping yotes.

Thanks,

I dragged up the limbs for the set, eye appeal for a scent post. Sprayed coyote urine on the underside of the limbs after I propped the ends up with a rock and then added coyote gland. Lasted even through the rain that way. It's a very remote area. Zero chance of catching a dog. Possibly a coon dog, if I do these are rubber jaw traps. You can let it trap your fingers and it doesn't hurt one bit.

Try some red fox gland lure for the yotes, works very well. Save the bait for when it gets cold, possums and skunks will clog your sets up on warm nights when using baits. Paul Dobbins makes a fantastic cat lure called Purrfect, and his beaver castor lure called Backbreaker is deadly on cats too. One thing that I truly believe is worth the money when trying to educate yourself is DVDs. I spent $700 dollars on videos my first summer trying to learn all that I could, probably saved me 5 to 8 years learning the hard way. It's as addictive as anything I've ever done. Nice catches, you're doing well.

Next time you reset can you take a picture of your setup please?

Yes there are tons, and not just one area I hunt but anywhere I hunt. I suspect it's that way everywhere honestly. People have just gotten use to it and don't think much about it anymore. They are where you are. Got another big female today. When I find time I'll post pictures of my set ups. I learned a lot today. I'll do better now hopefully after what I learned what happened last night. ..ie; more than one trap in one spot during breeding season.

Well it did, but sideways as usual. The tree limb on the left in the two track is my visual attractant for coyotes. Trap is couple inches off the end with coyote urine and gland on the underside of the end of the limb.
