2020 - What did you do today?

Talk about getting and staying healthy

Since getting the Peloton I've set a bunch of goals for myself for 2020, one of those is to bike 2020 miles. I'm 230 miles in already!

Now that I'm over this head cold I'm going to be starting up a strength program with the 30-60 minutes of cardio per day on the bike.

Welcome aboard treeghost!

Lightsout...it’s leap year so you got this

My sugar momma and I went for a nice little stroll around the hood this morning, about 1.5 hours worth of walking and her talking. We did run into some traffic.
Image

This afternoon was;
20 min stair climb
3x5 bent back rows at 115lbs with 5 second hang between each set
3x5 thrusters at 115lbs with 5 second hang between each set
11min row for 2000meters
3x5 under hand pull ups
3x5 dips
10x5 kb swings at 45lbs with a 5 second hang between each round
3x5 deal man makers w/15 dumb bells with a 5 second hang between each round.
20 min stair cool down

Total hang time of 100 seconds. I’ve read that 2 mins of hanging each day can strengthen shoulders and ease any pain. I’m giving it a go because my left shoulder has been hurting for a while now.

What’s everyone’s goals? I know Buzzard wants to be a healthy old man, me a young endurance junky.

In addition to focusing on endurance I would really like to get my body fat down to sub 15. Not sure I’m willing to do what’s needed but it’s a goal I have that is hanging out in the back of my head. I’ve done it before but man you have to really be diligent of what you eat.

My number goal is endurance though and I’m on the right track so I’m thinking about adding another level to it. Body weight for me is not so much of a goal as actual body fat, it’s easy to loose weight but a challenge to loose the right kind of weight and maintain it.

Goal - 25k Bell Ringer race below 3.75 hr. Ran just over 4 hrs this year. First ever trail race. Was not prepared for the bike trail portion which just about killed me.

Chippewapartners treated me to Waffle House this morning. Steak and hashbrown bowl was my motivation to do a 1/2 hour walk, 5x5 backsquats @185lbs, 2000m row and 100 burpees. Burpee time was 11:04mins. I need to shave about 1.5mins odd that. Doing burpees after a moderately heavy backsquat and a full belly was not easy.

I usually take Wednesday and Friday off, but not this week. I am almost back to my pre-Christmas weight. Two pounds to go. Then I am shooting for another 7-10 to see if I can get down to 15% body fat. Considering I was probably pretty close to 40% fat almost 3 years ago, I am feeling good about things in general :D

I did a 15 minute treadmill run and 15 on the elliptical last night. Lifting tonight! I'll do a 30 minute run tomorrow.

I'll venture back in on this one, I need some accountability. Last year was bad all around, exercised the least and ate the worst. I put on another 20 lbs and need to drop a good 40-50lbs. The good news is that the wife is back on board and helping with healthy cooking options for breakfast and dinner. Plus she gave up parking in the garage to make that the workout space. I bought myself a rower a week ago so between that and the treadmill I'm hoping to get back in the swing of things. Worked out a couple times this week already and holy smokes have I fallen off big time.

I'm going to need the extra day to meet my goal before deer season starts up :rotf:

Today I got 45 min in early on the bike and then started a 4 week strength training program; today was 30 minutes of chest/back

To finish up I pulled some ladder stands down and got them hauled up to the house.

My goals for this year are more workout metric based, I'm not sure what metrics to place on myself directly other than have more endurance and overall strength.

My goals for the year are:
-bike 2020 miles before archery season
-work out 5,000 minutes (Peloton started annual challenges and this is the top one, should be easy to get)
-Increase my FTP (Functional Threshold Power) by 10%
-I want to do 50 miles on the bike in one day
-I would like to run a 5k as I've never done so before
-I want to drag a deer out of the woods this fall and not loose my breath :smash:
-Maintain healthy lipid panel after turning my numbers around
-I'm on the fence about running the Fort Campbell Spartan race as this is completely out of my comfort zone

I don't really have any measurable goals. I guess you can say I want to get my cholesterol back down well inside acceptable levels. I'll probably have better luck doing that with diet choices more than anything. I'm the perfect example of someone who ate crap on the low carb/high fat diet and paid for it. Bacon and no-bun cheeseburgers are not good for you. I weigh the same thing I've weighed for the past 10 years, so weight loss certainly isn't an objective (165#, 6' tall).. I did go back through my run log last year and had mostly 4 mile runs, a few 5 mile runs and only a single run of 6 miles or more. I should be logging some 6+ mile trail runs by the end of February. That'll be nice. Last year was rough on me with my wife working out of town, getting our house ready to sell, selling our house in 20 minutes with nowhere to move. We're settled into a nice place in a good community now, so that stress is long gone. AT and I should draw some elk tags in a good unit in a couple years. I guess you can say we just need to keep pushing each other and have one heck of a hunt. That's it! My goal is to be able to do 100 burpees in 1 second less than AT by the end of the year. Now, what's a burpee?

Tues - I took a long lunch and hiked several miles scouting some new hunting areas. Finished the day with 45 push-ups.

Wednesday - 4.07 mile run at Yanahli Park. I was getting close to the end of the run and saw I was just above the 10:00/mile average, so I hit the afterburners and finished with a 9:56/mile average. Spent the afternoon tuning some arrows to my bow.

Today - Kettlebell workout (20 pound kettlebell - I'm a runner)

3 rounds of:
10 goblet squats
8 one arm rows (each arm)
5 one arm press (each arm)
15 swings
8 shoulder halos (each way)
8 hip halos (each way)
5 around the leg passes (each leg/each direction)
15 swings
8 single arm squat to press (each side)
15 swings

couple minute break between each round.

Today was pretty slow, 10 burpees, 50 single unders, 10 min of stretching, ran for 10 mins. Then did a 21/15/9 of cal row, push-ups and sit-ups.

Goals for this year would be to run a sub 10min mile, I’m a big guy with short legs so it’s tough. 100 burpees would be nice as well but that doesn’t even seem attainable.

Slowly working back into a routine of daily cardio. Some days it's 30 minutes of walking. Others it's a light jog and walking to catch my breath then light jog again. Doing weights 2-3 times a week and back into a routine of doing pushups almost every day. My goal is to at least get down to 210 and maintain that through hunting season. I'm struggling with a diet. I have been trying to do a keto/lower carb but I am seriously considering changing up a bit to see if adding 1 meal with carbs. I do miss certain carbs and it's a pain eating out. There's only so many burgers or steaks n salads that I can tolerate.

You sound like a perfect candidate for intermittent fasting.

Chippewaepartners was telling me about a Bighorn sheep hunt he went on in the same area we hope to hunt elk. The amount of rattle snakes he seen has me researching snake gaiters

Now, I don’t do sissy boy burpees I do the CrossFit kind, those and thrusters are the only CrossFit routines I agree with.

I am doing my first western hunt this year. Going for elk. Hoping to draw Arizona. New Mexico landowner tag is likely to be my fallback plan. I want to be in whatever shape needed to make that hunt awesome. I have really turned it around in the last 3 years and mostly just want to maintain.

Most concrete goals are getting from 20% to 15% body fat (approximately).
kill an elk
run 7 miles in 60 minutes ( I currently do around 6.2/hr)
run a sub 8 minute mile (my best is 8:24. I average around 9:15 on my longer runs.)
run a 25 minute 5k (I am at about 28 minutes now)
