I talked to my boss on Thursday.
He has a pit near Kennett MO, about 5 miles from the one that I was supposed to be in this year.
They normally kill anywhere from 750 to 900 ducks per year out of his pit.
This data goes back for the last 12 years that he has hunted there.
As of Thursday they had killed less than 10 ducks.

His group's theory is the ducks came down and the farmers in the area were so far behind that there wasn't enough water to catch their attention yet and they kept going.
Kinda makes sense, the one day I did hunt, the day after Thanksgiving, we saw literally thousands of ducks but they were all high and all headed South.

I haven't heard of anyone really killing anything around NW TN yet either.
You will hear scattered reports of limits here and there but very very rare.
I spent some time riding around a couple of the refuge's around here last weekend and I didn't see a handfull of ducks.

Maybe it will pick up a bit soon for everyone.

Maybe the global warming thing will cause the migration to shift to East Tennessee!! [emoji23][emoji23][emoji23][emoji23]

Due to having a full work schedule to include two weeks of training next month out of state, I don't know how many hunts I'll even get here locally this year. Was going to head west and hunt/scout around but now that's out. Good luck & blessings to all.

The flood waters of the Mississippi river has dried up the traditional productive duck holes/blinds. Thousands of acres of flooded timber from the Hickman Kentucky bottoms , to Moss Island, to Chickasaw , to John Tulley and then the Hatchie.

So far this year to kill ducks you have to duck hunt instead of being a blind sitter. Hopefully with the river falling it will change. In my old age I like being a blind sitter. Running and gunning is for the young.

We saw a few more ducks this morning and actually worked a few but they didn't commit.
Had one group that I think were gonna do it but someone else on the watershed shot at some and the ones we were working flared off.
We did get one female hooded meganser and we had a great time so it's all good.

Was about 45 minutes from Stuttgart Friday - today. There were 8 of us and we only killed 4 or 5 Friday and 1 yesterday. All woodies and no mallards. So slow that we didn't even hunt this morning but packed up and drove home. We had fun nonetheless.

We hunt around Paragould AR and have had a so-so start this year. Just haven't had the traveling birds hit yet. When a few new birds have come in, we've had some decent shooting. Hoping the birds and weather cooperate for last half of season.

Slow for us north of Brinkley. We saw a good bit of birds yesterday but they wanted nothing to do with us. As others have eluded to the mississippi is where it's at right now...

With big river about to come out, and no weather, Im afraid its over for this yr. what few birds are here will now be scattered everywhere. Unless we get bad weather, we're done.

I agree. Cold front coming but 3 inches of rain in 24 hours is going to have them spread out even more. Looks like the river is forecast to 29 but I wouldn't be surprised if it gets in the 30's.

Been able to scratch out a few birds, mostly mallards each hunt but focusing back on deer hunting until we get some north wind. Conditions will be great if the birds make it before the season ends.

We scratched out 8 today on Ky Lake, saw a whole bunch of what I judge to be new ducks. High travelers in bunches of 50-100. All headed South to the Duck River Refuge.
