What brand of pellets do you use?
Why?
What about the price. The best I have found are the 20lb bags of Pit Boss brand at Walmart. $8.88 / 20 lbs. Most of the other brands at other places are up to 2X the price.
What's your go to flavor?

Lumber Jack, they have 100% hickory and some blends, all of them are good, 8.99 for a 20lbs bag, way better the pitboss, but seen PB has a fruitwood blend that's probably really good, the charhickory is good for steaks imo. I get mine at rural king

Lumberjack from Rural King here too. 100% of the advertised source wood and price is great. Competition Blend has become my do-all, but ill occasionally mix in 50% char hickory for burgers or steaks.

I use lumberjack as well. Like the pecan, charhickory and fruit blend the best but they are all good.

I’m just not a fan. My brother in law has one. Everything just tastes like baked food. Is it something he’s not doing right?

Its tough to say what the problem is or if you just desire a stronger smoke taste, the hotter you run them the less smoke flavor you get,the pellets burn very efficient , I use a smoke tube some times when I want more, I will run mine at the lowest temp settings for several hours depending on what I am smoking, if I am doing steaks or chicken/grilling quick cook I give both 30 minutes of smoke before cranking the temp up, chicken I got to 300-350 steaks I will run temp up about 500+ and maybe open the sear grate for some open flame kissing. it works very well. using pellets that are 100% of the wood flavor you want works the best, the brands with the charcoal in them can give steaks a woody/charcoal flavor pretty well. hickory is my favorite flavor but apple is really good to, blends can be very good , good thing about this smoker is I can dump the pellets out and change flavors pretty easy. That said I cooked 2 racks on my Weber performer yesterday that turned out very well, not sure better than the pellet smoker but it was fairly easy with 1 10 briquet add and wood chunk addition towards the end of the smoke

Just pulled the trigger on a Oklahoma joe pellet grill. Small advantages over the pit boss I was looking at. And they were out of the pit boss. So it kinda forced my hand. Hope I like it
