Well...that'll leave a mark

Pretty much anything you want to talk about!

Well...that'll leave a mark

Postby Crow Terminator » Wed Aug 14, 2019 1:06 pm

I have always been careful when it comes to saws and chainsaws. I know a lot of people that have gotten hurt and or near misses.

But I never thought about hedge clippers being as dangerous.

Went to give our goats a treat this morning. They love fresh cut hedges so I was trimming them some with our big shears/clippers. I was cutting the limbs off one that was about the size of my wrist that I had bent over and next thing I know, I have that ole metallic taste of blood in my mouth and am seeing stars. I don't have a clue what happened. Clippers went snip and and I have a face full of tree. Knocked my front upper tooth back and out of position and sent a couple of the bottom ones completely thru my lower lip. Blood everywhere. I thought I had knocked out all my teeth. Wife panicked and couldn't decide between emergency room or dentist. I settled on dentist. They did X rays and scheduled me an appointment with the oral surgeon here in a few minutes. I had just thought it busted my lip but after getting cleaned up, we realized what had happened with the bottom teeth going thru the lower lip. They said my tooth can be saved but I have no Idea what I am in store for. Worked all night on midnight shift...came home and was going to get a bite to eat after giving the goats a treat...now I can't eat or drink til after the surgery. It's throbbing like crazy now...wasn't that bad earlier. Only me could about get knocked out using manual clippers by a hedge limb.

The limb was probably under tension of some kind and when released from that tension, it rebounded right into Crow's face.

The pics should be awesome.

Hope you get to feeling better. Most likely you have one or more root canals in your future unfortunately. I have seen similar injuries in the past many times. If you have any questions or concerns you can pm me if you like. Oh yea, I didn't sleep at a Holiday Inn last night but I am a dentist.

Sitting in the waiting room for the oral surgeon now. Getting nervous.

Dbllunger -- That's what my dentist told me this morning as well. He said it had a lot of trauma on the Xray and that usually means a root canal later down the road. He said injuries like that were prone to abscess. I dread it...never had a root canal. Other than wisdom teeth removal, I've not had anything else.

DaveB -- That's what I am thinking as well...I think I must have cut a limb that was holding a bigger tree under pressure that I didn't see due to all the honey suckle and such. A few inches higher and it could have broke my nose or got in my eyes. I was wearing safety glasses out of habit but don't think they would've done much.

Thanks for the prayers yall. Gonna need em I'm afraid.

My college son face planted off a bike and had some similar trauma. Broke teeth, knocked one out, etc. This was years ago but it took multiple dentist visits over months and costs lots of money fixing everything. I pray yours isn’t as bad. I was cutting a tree that had blown over yesterday for my MIL. It only takes a second to get hurt. Prayers sent.
