Rabbit "fat" I've never seen

Postby Long walker » Fri Jun 07, 2019 7:01 pm

My neighbor dropped a rabbit raiding his garden with a pellet gun. When I went to dress it the skin wouldn't peel straight off from the chest area. When I cut around it I hit this white fatty stuff that leaked a white milky liquid.

If I uploaded the pics correctly you can see it on the hide and the chest and it was also in the pelvis area. I stuck with the if it doesn't look right don't eat theory but I'd like to know what it is and if it's safe for future reference.

Thanks in advance for all the help.

It looks like a female that was lactating. That fat looks like the mammary glands.

Along the lines of what I was thinking but that some clung to the hide and some to the flesh made me wonder. If I would have pulled the hide and it all stayed on the flesh that would have made perfect sense.

I agree with gecko7, that’s a female and you’re looking at the mammary tissue which extends from the armpits to the back legs.

Edited to add...I wonder if Mr Kilby will see this thread...

Looks like fat. Wolves make a nasty black hole in the neck area and are an ugly larva typr worm.
