Anybody been out to listen. It's a bit early but wondering if anyone has heard any? Plan on going Saturday.

I have seen quite a few here in Montgomery county out in the fields between exit 1 and exit 8. Also seen them in some random places here and there. I saw one in full strut about two days ago but he probably was just drying out from all the rain we have been having.

Heard them this morning near the house when I went outside to leave for work. Numbers have been way down in my area over the last 5+ years, so it's encouraging to see and hear a few more.

Quailman, how are you quail numbers now, say compared to 5 yrs ago?

I believe mine may be slightly up from 5 yrs ago, but down from 1 & 2 yrs ago.

Going this Saturday here in MS... Hoping one or 2 pops off. Been wearing out the coons hard since deer season ended. Songbirds have literally gone nuts the past 2 weeks here. Very early green up, redbuds are almost done, azeleas are just starting to pop. Daffodils came and went a month ago. Waiting for the shoe to fall and we get a hard killing freeze.

I was out at Ft Loudon State Park on Sunday and was hearing gobbles come from across the lake to the east and south.

In my local area, quail numbers are still down unfortunately. It seems every year that more and more fencerows, thickets, and other available cover get cleared to "clean up" the farms. In some areas, numbers seem to be decent, but it's mostly about available habitat. I do have a good friend of mine that hunts a lot in the middle TN area, and he's actually had a pretty good year. But, he has access to some pretty good farms.

Glad to hear you're seeing some improvement!

I had to be in Selma, AL earlier this week for work. It's a pretty good drive down there but I was still surprised at the difference if flora. Buttercups already gone, bermuda green, redbuds blooming, and assorted catkins coming on strong. I couldn't help but think about how their turkeys must be gobbling good.

They actually gobbled pretty good this morning. Heard 3-4 with some gobbling on the ground. I was surprised.

I went this morning... juvie season opens Friday. Ran into another fellow on the lease listening as well. Not a peep. Pretty foggy/misty here, so that didn't help. Checked trail cams, none seen. Looks like they all left my 1000 acres mid Jan... I suspect to neighboring leases with active feeders.

There were 8 different LBS here at the end of Dec. Maybe still are, birds in south MS are usually pretty quiet

Been gobbling sporadically on the roost for about a week. Seen 7 strutters Friday. Been seeing several flocks on my way to a job site and it was like a light switch. All had just been feeding everyday then boom. Two flocks that had only hens had the boys with them fluffed up. I've yet to hear a gobble but only went once and weather was bad. I'll start hitting it everyday after this cold front blows out. Teens Tuesday and Wednesday morning

I heard 1 this morning! He gobbled one time! Probably had hens all around him. I will get back out in the morning. It's still early over here on the plateu! It was a nice morning to watch the sunrise!
